The city of Moud is situated south of Mashad and south of Birdjan. The carpets from Moud often have a Herati pattern, with or without a centrally placed medallion. They are sometimes divided into Moud Mahi and Moud Garden. The first one mentioned, Mahi, often has a beige colour with a light red or blue nuance and a star shaped medallion. They share many of the characteristics of tribal pieces; made of 100% wool with a fondness for bright colour and geometrical designs. However the wool, though characteristically soft and lustrous, is machine spun and the colors show more variety than is usual for tribal rugs, with soft shades - of red, pink, blue green and yellow. All the motifs however are entirely traditional and all sizes are produced. Other weaving center which come within the general category of Yalameh are Shekarlu.

A peculiar weaving technique involving driving in an additional thick weft makes Bijar carpets extremely solid and hardwearing. The Designs are somewhat standardized: a Herati (Mahi) design with medallions, one inside the next, of red, blue and white. Sometimes an all-over Mahi design is seen. More originality was seen in old Bijar rugs, in those produced in the village of Shahndej and in the so-called 'Halvai' Bijar rugs.
