Ziegler (Beige) (263844)
HANDMADE RUG - Ziegler is the name of a design rather than an actual city or tribe. Ziegler design rugs are sometimes known as Chobi rugs or Peshawar rugs. A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs back in 1883. Using leading designers and master weavers from Iran and Europe, Ziegler and Co. managed to create a design using softer palettes than those typically found in Persia. Ziegler rugs were designed with the western market in mind and fit perfectly into almost any home. Based on a softer version of the Sultanabad design their muted colours using vegetable dyes and simple, yet striking pattern fit well with modern neutral colour schemes and both contemporary or traditional furniture. The weaving of Zeigler rugs began in the Arak provence, however, they are now made all over the Persian region. Zeiglers have re-introduced vegetable dyes back into Persian & Oriental weaving after the popular use of chemical dyes since the start of the 20th century. Although their knot count is not generally high (around 80-120 KPSI), the hand-spun Ghazni or Himalayan wool used is of high quality and the structure very durable. Ziegler rugs are possibly the most popular and sought after handmade rugs in the UK due to their gentle tones and softer patterns - there are not many rooms that would not be improved by a Ziegler rug. Fine Sumak (213926)
HANDMADE RUG - Sumak is a comparatively rare type of Kilim, deriving its name from the old town of SHEMAKJA. Sumak is NOT a Kilim. However, both have flat-woven style. Sumak has embroidered and its embroidery threads are not cut off at the back. Sumak has a shaggy, erratic collection of loose ends or strands of wool. The wefts strands (serving a decorative role rather than the structural role of knotted carpets) are threaded through a number of warp strands and then looped back. All Sumak have geometric pattern with many tribal motifs all around. Usually the motifs are small birds. Sumak are excellent with contemporary, traditional and modern decors.

Nain is a small town in the centre of Persia, very close to the famous city of Esfahan. Nain utilize the Shah Abbas design and make use of flowing design such as flowers and tendrils.Nain rugs are constructed using the Persian knot and can be between 300 and 700 knots per inch. The pile is usually very high quality wool, clipped short and silk is most usually used as highlighting for parts of the detailing in the design. Some pieces are made entirely of silk. Nowadays Nain itself only produces very fine 4 or 6 La quality. Nain rugs that were once made for the Emperor of Persia can turn any home into a palace. These hand knotted carpets are most often made by wool, but can also be found in silk and cotton. Persian Qashquai (326005)
HANDMADE RUG - The Qashquai weave several types of rugs. A characteristic product can be recognized by its all-wool construction, heavy ribbing on the reverse, strong deep colours (particularly the red), and the use of traditional motifs such as the 'Hashing' or crab. Typically, the designs are geometrical with a row of three of five medallions down the middle of the rug, or in the centre and corners. The whole field is generally covered with small geometric motifs. Qashqai rugs average 70 to 170 knots per square inch. Though all traditional examples of Qashqai rugs have all wool construction including wool wefts and warps, newer village pieces may have cotton wefts and are generally more coarsely woven. The Qashquai are famous also for their artefacts: horse blankets, saddlebags, ropes, etc. The products of other tribes, such as the Khamseh and Lori, are often confused with those of the Qashquai.
