A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs back in 1883. Shiraz rugs are not usually made in a large factory, with the majority of them being woven by home weavers and are woven on a cotton or wool foundation with a woollen pile. These nomadic rugs are almost always geometrical in style. Patterns tend to be small medallions or geometric figures scattered across the rugs.
