HANDMADE RUG - Kazak rugs are a type of Armenian rug that were woven in the south of Caucasus, between Tiflis and Erevan. The older Caucasian carpets are made with hand spun yarns of wool as well as the warp, weft and pile. The natural colours are both clear and strong. Good wool quality and Turkish knots make the carpets durable and they have a good reputation. In newer carpets, made after 1925, the warp is of cotton, with synthetic colours that are bleached and fewer and simplified patterns are used. The carpets are fairly durable All Caucasian carpets are made with a Turkish or Giordes knot "Kazak" carpets are not from Kazakhstan but are from an area in what is now Armenia. HANDMADE RUG - The Qashqai are a tribal confederation, who shares similar dialects and heritage. The Qashqai are primarily descendants of the Turkmen and Ersari tribes, many are pastoral nomads who roam depending on the season moving from the Isfahan province to south of Shiraz, persia. The Qashqai weave several types of rugs. A characteristic product can be recognized by its all-wool construction, heavy ribbing on the reverse, strong deep colours (particularly the red), and the use of traditional motifs such as the 'Hashing' or crab. Typically, the designs are geometrical with a row of three of five medallions down the middle of the rug, or in the centre and corners. The whole field is generally covered with small geometric motifs. The Qashqai rugs average 70 to 170 knots per square inch. Traditional Qashqai rugs have all wool construction including wool wefts and warps. The Qashqai are famous also for their artefacts: horse blankets, saddlebags, ropes, etc. The products of other tribes, such as the Khamseh and Lori, are often confused with those of the Qashqai. HANDMADE RUG - A Shiraz Rug is a type of Persian rug made in the villages around the city of Shiraz, a city in the south west region of Persia, sited practically upon the old Persian Persepolis. The designs tend to come from settled tribal weavers so they mimic Qashqai, Khamseh, Afshar, Abadeh and Luri designs. Since the weavers are using fixed looms the rugs tend to be larger and often coarser than their tribal counterparts. Shiraz utilizes the Persian (asymmetrical) knot. The average knot count is around 120 KPSI. Shiraz rugs are not usually made in a large factory, with the majority of them being woven by home weavers and are woven on a cotton or wool foundation with a woollen pile. These nomadic rugs are almost always geometrical in style. Patterns tend to be small medallions or geometric figures scattered across the rugs. Strong reds and brown are the most typical colour of Shiraz rugs, they are extremely hard wearing and compliment wooden floors well. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.

HANDMADE RUG - Afghanistan is one of the leading producers of handmade rugs in the world. Afghan rugs are genuine, charming and usually phenomenally inexpensive. One of the most exotic and distinctive of all oriental rugs is the Shindand and Adraskan (named after local Afghan villages) woven in the Hairat area in western Afghanistan. Strangely elongated human and animal figures are their signature look. Most of the weavers in Afghanistan are the Ersari Turkman. But other smaller group such as Chub Bash and Kizil Ayaks are also in the line of weaving rugs. In addition Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs and Arabs label their rug according to their ethic group. Various and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich colours. As a chemical colour they use copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate, or tin and urine. Tribal rugs are almost always done on the horizontal or ground loom. This is due to the fact the nomads rarely remain in one location for more then two months. A Turkman woman will usually take at least six month to finish a rug 6 feet by 4 feet. The loom there fore can be set up and taken down four to six times before a rug or kelim is finished colour of Afghan rugs are mainly Reds (Madder-root of modern plant- ranges from reds to Orange and Purple. HANDMADE RUG - Sumak is a comparatively rare type of Kilim, deriving its name from the old town of SHEMAKJA. Sumak is NOT a Kilim. However, both have flat-woven style. Sumak has embroidered and its embroidery threads are not cut off at the back. Sumak has a shaggy, erratic collection of loose ends or strands of wool. The wefts strands (serving a decorative role rather than the structural role of knotted carpets) are threaded through a number of warp strands and then looped back. All Sumak have geometric pattern with many tribal motifs all around. Usually the motifs are small birds. Sumak are excellent with contemporary, traditional and modern decors.

HANDMADE RUG - Tabriz rug weavers have great skill, and are aided by a hook-like implement, which they use instead of the fingers for tying knots. The warps and wefts are cotton, the pile wool and with highlights of silk that can be found in the finest pieces. The colours of the finer carpets are delicate and refined. The coarsest qualities are brightly coloured and rarely exported. A wide variety of designs are seen: copies of classical designs, re-workings of old motifs, and pictorial or figurative treatments.

HANDMADE RUG - Extremely Fine - Baluch rugs are tribal hand-woven rugs made in the southern part of Persia by nomadic Baluch tribes. The majority of Baluch rugs are woven in the province Sistan-Baluchistan, which sits on the extreme Southeast boundaries of Persia. Colours of Baluch rugs are usually predominantly a rich burgundy with some very dark navy blue and accents of ivory. They frequently have either an overall pattern, or a prayer rug design. Any Baluch Persian rug is one of a kind and has absolutely no duplicates anywhere in the world. Being of tribal and often nomadic origin the Baluch rugs are generally small in size, typically limited to a length of 8 ft. Often using wool pile and foundation the rugs are resilient, however due to the materials used and the circumstances of the weavers the knot count is generally low with about 60-180 knots per square inch (KPSI).The people of Baluchistan are descendants of Turkmen weavers and they are amongst the poorest in the in Persia. Low wages and tribal lifestyles mean that Balouch rugs are some of the best value for money carpets from Persia. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.
