Aubusson (Beige) (25yc_010)
Aubusson rugs are among the finest rugs in the world. The Aubusson rug was first produced during the 17th century in the French town of Aubusson. Aubusson rugs were easily distinguished because of their style, delicate with detailed floral and architectural designs and the colours are usually soft, traditionally hand-woven from wool. They have since evolved and are now available in a wide variety of colors, patterns, shapes and sizes that will complement almost any decor.  They fit well into both formal and casual settings, and are particularly stylish when displayed on hardwood flooring. Old Persian Baluch (336004)
HANDMADE RUG - Baluch rugs are tribal hand-woven rugs made in the southern part of Persia by nomadic Baluch tribes. The majority of Baluch rugs are woven in the province Sistan-Baluchistan, which sits on the extreme Southeast boundaries of Persia. Colours of Baluch rugs are usually predominantly a rich burgundy with some very dark navy blue and accents of ivory. They frequently have either an overall pattern, or a prayer rug design. Any Baluch Persian rug is one of a kind and has absolutely no duplicates anywhere in the world. Being of tribal and often nomadic origin the Baluch rugs are generally small in size, typically limited to a length of 8 ft. Often using wool pile and foundation the rugs are resilient, however due to the materials used and the circumstances of the weavers the knot count is generally low with about 60-180 knots per square inch (KPSI).The people of Baluchistan are descendants of Turkmen weavers and they are amongst the poorest in the in Persia. Low wages and tribal lifestyles mean that Balouch rugs are some of the best value for money carpets from Persia. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.

Persian Ziegler (Gold) (263516)
HANDMADE RUG - Ziegler is the name of a design rather than an actual city or tribe. Ziegler design rugs are sometimes known as Chobi rugs or Peshawar rugs. A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs back in 1883. Using leading designers and master weavers from Iran and Europe, Ziegler and Co. managed to create a design using softer palettes than those typically found in Persia. Ziegler rugs were designed with the western market in mind and fit perfectly into almost any home. Based on a softer version of the Sultanabad design their muted colours using vegetable dyes and simple, yet striking pattern fit well with modern neutral colour schemes and both contemporary or traditional furniture. The weaving of Zeigler rugs began in the Arak provence, however, they are now made all over the Persian region. Zeiglers have re-introduced vegetable dyes back into Persian & Oriental weaving after the popular use of chemical dyes since the start of the 20th century. Although their knot count is not generally high (around 80-120 KPSI), the hand-spun Ghazni or Himalayan wool used is of high quality and the structure very durable. Ziegler rugs are possibly the most popular and sought after handmade rugs in the UK due to their gentle tones and softer patterns - there are not many rooms that would not be improved by a Ziegler rug. Afghan Khan (Red) (125860)
HANDMADE RUG - Afghanistan is one of the leading producers of handmade rugs in the world. Afghan rugs are genuine, charming and usually phenomenally inexpensive. One of the most exotic and distinctive of all oriental rugs is the Shindand and Adraskan (named after local Afghan villages) woven in the Hairat area in western Afghanistan. Strangely elongated human and animal figures are their signature look. Most of the weavers in Afghanistan are the Ersari Turkman. But other smaller group such as Chub Bash and Kizil Ayaks are also in the line of weaving rugs. In addition Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs and Arabs label their rug according to their ethic group. Various and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich colours. As a chemical colour they use copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate, or tin and urine. Tribal rugs are almost always done on the horizontal or ground loom. This is due to the fact the nomads rarely remain in one location for more then two months. A Turkman woman will usually take at least six month to finish a rug 6 feet by 4 feet. The loom there fore can be set up and taken down four to six times before a rug or kelim is finished colour of Afghan rugs are mainly Reds (Madder-root of modern plant- ranges from reds to Orange and Purple. Persian Yalameh (A1471)
HANDMADE RUG - Yalameh rugs are made in the south-western part of the Chahar Mahal district by nomadic peoples of Turkish origin. The town of Yalameh lies slightly north of the city of Isfahan in central Persia and their weaving is made with motifs and techniques that are derived from all the southern Persia nomadic tribes, with colors that are somehow brighter than the tribal rugs. Stylistically Yalameh rugs reveal similarities with the Luri, the Bakhtiari and also the Qashqai Rugs. Yalameh rugs are made entirely of wool with fine knotting techniques of weaving are visible, particularly in the use of Turkish knot symmetrical fabric up to a density of 100 knots per sq. The yarns used for the pile are very soft and silky and this gives the rugs a considerable sheen. The colours are many and bright even though there are some rugs in dark tones. The most usual pattern comprises columns of diamond-shaped medallions with hooked or jagged contours (dyrnak). The field is densely decorated with tiny designs such as eight-pointed stars, rosettes or stylized human or animal figures similar to what we see on Qashqai and Abadeh rugs. Yalameh rugs are made in many sizes, from the small bed rugs to 300x200 cm, runners and squares. Rugs larger than 300x200 cm are not as common. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.

Persian Abadeh (116990)
HANDMADE RUG - Abadeh is a market town half way between Isfahan and Shiraz on the main road. It is traditionally where the Qashqai in their north/south seasonal migration would cross the highway. Consequentially it was an important market town and one that most Qashqai were familiar with. The Pahlavi Shahs, Reza Shah and his son who was overthrown Mohammad Reza Shah feared the Qashqai since they represented a mobile armed Turkic speaking block that was not completely under the thumb of the Shah. To mitigate the risk the Pahlavi would periodically pressure the Qashqai to settle. Abadeh was an area that drew many settling Qashqai. They knew the town and besides twice a year they could see their cousins and other family who had not settled. In addition to the settling Qashqai there were also Lori and Afshari in the Abadeh area. To the left is a fine example of an old Lori Abadeh rug. A small note on the Abadeh Rug to the right. Newer Abadeh rugs often look rather like this example except the center medallion is more of a diamond. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.

Many small sizes are produced, and larger pieces are generally runners. The rather bold striking designs may originally have had a tribal significance which is now lost - some of The Designs resemble crabs, insects and leaves. Natural dyes are largely used.

Old Kazak (Blue) (195700)
HANDMADE RUG - Kazak rugs are a type of Armenian rug that were woven in the south of Caucasus, between Tiflis and Erevan. The older Caucasian carpets are made with hand spun yarns of wool as well as the warp, weft and pile. The natural colours are both clear and strong. Good wool quality and Turkish knots make the carpets durable and they have a good reputation. In newer carpets, made after 1925, the warp is of cotton, with synthetic colours that are bleached and fewer and simplified patterns are used. The carpets are fairly durable All Caucasian carpets are made with a Turkish or Giordes knot "Kazak" carpets are not from Kazakhstan but are from an area in what is now Armenia. The word probably derives from the Russian for Cossack - originally Christian Russian and Ukrainian serfs who fled from feudal landlords, and who were noted for their brutality. The colours of older Caucasian carpets are mostly made from natural materials found in the respective tribal regions. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.
