Afghan Khan (Red) (125846)
HANDMADE RUG - Afghanistan is one of the leading producers of handmade rugs in the world. Afghan rugs are genuine, charming and usually phenomenally inexpensive. One of the most exotic and distinctive of all oriental rugs is the Shindand and Adraskan (named after local Afghan villages) woven in the Hairat area in western Afghanistan. Strangely elongated human and animal figures are their signature look. Most of the weavers in Afghanistan are the Ersari Turkman. But other smaller group such as Chub Bash and Kizil Ayaks are also in the line of weaving rugs. In addition Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs and Arabs label their rug according to their ethic group. Various and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich colours. As a chemical colour they use copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate, or tin and urine. Tribal rugs are almost always done on the horizontal or ground loom. This is due to the fact the nomads rarely remain in one location for more then two months. A Turkman woman will usually take at least six month to finish a rug 6 feet by 4 feet. The loom there fore can be set up and taken down four to six times before a rug or kelim is finished colour of Afghan rugs are mainly Reds (Madder-root of modern plant- ranges from reds to Orange and Purple. Ziegler (264560)
HANDMADE RUG - Ziegler is the name of a design rather than an actual city or tribe. Ziegler design rugs are sometimes known as Chobi rugs or Peshawar rugs. A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs back in 1883. Using leading designers and master weavers from Iran and Europe, Ziegler and Co. managed to create a design using softer palettes than those typically found in Persia. Ziegler rugs were designed with the western market in mind and fit perfectly into almost any home. Based on a softer version of the Sultanabad design their muted colours using vegetable dyes and simple, yet striking pattern fit well with modern neutral colour schemes and both contemporary or traditional furniture. The weaving of Zeigler rugs began in the Arak provence, however, they are now made all over the Persian region. Zeiglers have re-introduced vegetable dyes back into Persian & Oriental weaving after the popular use of chemical dyes since the start of the 20th century. Although their knot count is not generally high (around 80-120 KPSI), the hand-spun Ghazni or Himalayan wool used is of high quality and the structure very durable. Ziegler rugs are possibly the most popular and sought after handmade rugs in the UK due to their gentle tones and softer patterns - there are not many rooms that would not be improved by a Ziegler rug. HANDMADE RUG - Sumak is a comparatively rare type of Kilim, deriving its name from the old town of SHEMAKJA. Sumak is NOT a Kilim. However, both have flat-woven style. Sumak has embroidered and its embroidery threads are not cut off at the back. Sumak has a shaggy, erratic collection of loose ends or strands of wool. The wefts strands (serving a decorative role rather than the structural role of knotted carpets) are threaded through a number of warp strands and then looped back. All Sumak have geometric pattern with many tribal motifs all around. Usually the motifs are small birds. Sumak are excellent with contemporary, traditional and modern decors.

Persian Moud (Er116-A1509)
HANDMADE RUG - This large Persian rug is from the Moud region. The rug is unique with a foundation pile of wool and is handmade, with a tasseled edge. The city of Moud is situated south of Mashad and south of Birdjan. The carpets from Moud often have a Herati pattern, with or without a centrally placed medallion. They are sometimes divided into Moud Mahi and Moud Garden. The first one mentioned, Mahi, often has a beige colour with a light red or blue nuance and a star shaped medallion. The other, Garden, reminds one about Bakhtiar carpets, illustrated with a curvilinear garden motif. The weavers uses double wefts and the workmanship is often of good quality. In both types silk is used to bring out the lustre in the pile. Other carpets from this area are Birjand and Kashmar.

Mushwani (Euniq-2001)
HANDMADE RUG - Semi-nomadic and settled tribesmen of Indo-European, probably Pashtun ancestry, who speak Farsi (Persian) and mainly inhabit western Afghanistan are addressed as Muashwanee. They are closely associated with an all-over scheme based on concentrically expanding hooked-diamonds or zigzags. Mushwanee rugs are generally of excellent quality and are very high in demand as they give a tribal look in the house and are ideal for the heavy foot traffic area, made with wool on wool embossed village design and are 100% hand knotted. In this rug the beautifully designed border with a decorative central pattern makes it really attractive. The colour of the rug brings a welcoming feeling. The brown colour goes really complimentary to the off white, beige and maroon colour on the rug. The price is very reasonable compare to the design and thought that has been put into it. The rug is worth the money because of the nice colour, velvety feel and natural softness. In this rug it is contrasted masterfully creating a uniformed geometric pattern around the central medalion. A fine Mushwani can evoke an essence of persian regalia and add a touch of eastern charm and class, though can also look quite fitting in a more humble and simpler decor. Like Mashad on the eastern side of Persian, its present apparent remoteness belies the fact that when the country was larger it had an important role. There are now a huge variety of carpets made in Tabriz, from extremely fine to very coarse pieces. The weavers have great skill, and are aided by a hook-like implement, which they use instead of the fingers for tying knots. The warps and wefts are cotton, the pile wool, often with highlights of silk that can be found in the finest pieces. The colours of the finer carpets are delicate and refined. What makes them so specail is not just the beauty of the motifs themselves but the consistency throughout their rugs. Tabriz feel almost regal to the touch. The central circled medalion here exudes a feel of eastern opulence, yet this rug will subtly lye with its mixture of delicate colours. Will satisfy those with a keen eye for traditional decor. A truly second to none piece. Handwoven with all natural dyes. This rug as with all our rugs are a class above what you will find anywhere online.
