HANDMADE RUG - Malayer is a town of southeast of Hamedan on the road to Arak. Its position in relation to these towns is significant, for its carpets exhibit characteristics of both Sarouk and Hamedan. Several villages in the area also produce rugs.Most Malayer rugs are single wafted; resulting in the white cotton warps being visible on the reverse. Unlike Hamedan rugs, which tend to be geometrical in design with large blocks of colour, Malayer rugs are more delicate, often with central medallions. The borders are particularly attractively drawn, often with a cluster of white motifs following the line of the main tendrils (or the outline of the central medallions) giving a lace effect. The village of Tafresh, to the northeast of Malayer in Arak province, produces similar carpets. Jozan and Manizan produce perhaps the best rugs in the Malayer area: they are double wafted and more rigid, using natural dyes. Only smaller sizes (Dozars, Zaronim and Pushtis) are produced. HANDMADE RUG - Kazak rugs are a type of Armenian rug that were woven in the south of Caucasus, between Tiflis and Erevan.The older Caucasian carpets are made with hand spun yarns of wool as well as the warp, weft and pile. The natural colours are both clear and strong. Good wool quality and Turkish knots make the carpets durable and they have a good reputation. In newer carpets, made after 1925, the warp is of cotton, with synthetic colours that are bleached and fewer and simplified patterns are used. The carpets are fairly durable All Caucasian carpets are made with a Turkish or Giordes knot "Kazak" carpets are not from Kazakhstan but are from an area in what is now Armenia. The word probably derives from the Russian for Cossack - originally Christian Russian and Ukrainian serfs who fled from feudal landlords, and who were noted for their brutality. HANDMADE RUG - The Qashquai weave several types of rugs. A characteristic product can be recognized by its all-wool construction, heavy ribbing on the reverse, strong deep colours (particularly the red), and the use of traditional motifs such as the 'Hashing' or crab. Typically, the designs are geometrical with a row of three of five medallions down the middle of the rug, or in the centre and corners. The whole field is generally covered with small geometric motifs. Qashqai rugs average 70 to 170 knots per square inch. Though all traditional examples of Qashqai rugs have all wool construction including wool wefts and warps, newer village pieces may have cotton wefts and are generally more coarsely woven. The Qashquai are famous also for their artefacts: horse blankets, saddlebags, ropes, etc. The products of other tribes, such as the Khamseh and Lori, are often confused with those of the Qashquai.

This type of rug is popular among tribes of the Zagros Mountains of Iran, including Kurdish, Luri and Qashqai tribes. The Gabbeh is usually crafted by women.
